The second ever Top 100 Ranking (2019) of golf courses across Ireland and North Ireland by the Irish Golfer Magazine has been released, and produced a number of interesting results.
At the top of the list, Portmarnock is replaced by Royal Portrush, perhaps unsurprisingly given the 2019 Open Championship venue's recent upgrade works. More curious, to many, will be the drop of Royal County Down, from 3 to 5 and behind the freshly renovated Adare Manor parkland course. Ballybunion Old's drop from 5 down to 9 is also noteworthy, and hard to explain given the courses immediately above it.
Despite some questionable results across the board, this list only furthers the reputation of Ireland and Northern Ireland as a golf destination – any country/region with a course like Portstewart at #25 is obviously pretty special.
