The result is challenging and well manicured and undeniably a big course, and the short game options around the greens are some of the best of any Nicklaus course I've seen. However it doesn't play like a links, because the many angled greens and bunkers on the approaches make it hard for lower-trajectory golfers to bounce the ball in. Too much of the shaping is wasted in between the holes, and not enough spills over into the fairways themselves."
