In Volume 3 of The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that.
“The Greenbrier course was originally a second 18 holes by Macdonald – the old photos indicate that he must have included several adaptations of British holes he never used anywhere else – but it was quite short overall, and these were obliterated in Jack Nicklaus’ redesign in preparation for the 1979 Ryder Cup. The holes where ponds were added seem particularly out of place.“
The Greenbrier Course at Greenbrier Resort received a score of 5 out of 10 from Tom Doak.
