In Volume 2 of The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that.
“An extreme 1980s design carved from a rocky site, this difficult course replaced the old Country Club of Austin [now the public Riverside GC], a Perry Maxwell design in east Austin, where Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite learned the game. With 470-yard par-4’s like the 11th and 12th holes hanging off rock walls, it was so much harder than the old course that the club champion shot 90 on opening day! I don’t think I’d want to play it on a regular basis, but I found it much more playable than it looks; if you’re in Austin for a few days it’s definitely worth a try.”
The Austin Country Club received a score of 6 out of 10 from Tom Doak, and a score of 5 out of 10 from one of his co-authors.
