In Volume 3 of The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that.
“The dune ridges at Astoria are unlike any I’ve ever seen in golf – a series of steep north-to-south ridges that are as much as 30 feet high, and so close together that the fairways running along the valleys can be as little as ten or twelve paces wide. The short par-4 3rd is the first encounter with these narrow valleys, but several holes on the back nine are also laid out in the half-pipe formations. The small and tilted greens provide plenty of short game interest to compensate for minimal bunkering. However, the widespread use of golf carts here takes a heavy toll on the fairway conditions and has led to some VERY awkward paths.“
Astoria Golf and Country Club received a score of 6 out of 10 from Tom Doak.
