Many trees have been lost in recent years on this challenging parkland course with its mountain backdrops, overlooking the vineyards of the Winelands, and designer Peter Matkovich has drafted a proposal of changes which could enhance the layout going forward. Stellenbosch, which had its greens redone in 2003, has hosted the SA Open (1999), won by home club member David Frost, five SA Masters from 1986 to 1990, and the World Amateur Team Champs (2006).
