Orkney is one of several courses which have been built alongside the mighty Vaal River, and Orkney really gets up close, to the point where most of the 18 holes have been flooded at various times. The course was developed by the gold mines, and it played host to the Vaal Reefs Open on the Sunshine Tour in the 1980s. When Golf Data upgraded the layout in the early ’90s they opened up more views of the river, which had been previously hidden. Four holes, Nos 8 to 11, are on the river bank
