A recent redesign (by Phil Jacobs) has transformed Irene into a modern challenge without detracting at all from the look and feel of the old layout which made this a special place to visit. Irene is being engulfed by the spread of Centurion, yet the golf course remains something of an idyllic oasis. The Hennops River running through the property creates an excellent hazard on several holes, and the course has two short yet delightfully tricky par 3s. A big modern clubhouse is lacking a bit in soul.
