English golf course architect Jeremy Pern in 2005 added Wroclaw in Lower Silesia to his considerable portfolio.
Wrocław Golf Club (previously Toya Golf & Country Club) is situated to the north of Wrocław city centre and both members and visiting golfers have the option of warming up either on the driving range or a short 9-hole layout before tackling the 18-hole championship course.
The holes are laid out on a former military training ground and it is alleged that, in addition to moving earth to add some definition to a largely level, featureless tract of land, the architect retained some old bomb blast and tank trap indentations to create a rather unique golfing landscape.
The designer wanted the course to have a links feel in the open parts, and a parkland feel to the section in between the trees and lakes. Some parts of the terrain remained untouched during construction, giving the course a very mature look. Apart from the closing holes on each nine, water comes into play at holes 5 to 7 and between the 13th and 16th holes – this stretch of holes on the inward half also winds its way through a residential housing development at the most southerly position on the property.
Wrocław Golf Club is open throughout the whole year - you can use either normal course or Golf Trackman simulators.
