Established in the 1950s, the Peninsula Golf Club outside of Auckland decided to sell its land to a developer back in 2009 and move to a new home further inland of their original Red Beach base. Taking the name Wainui, the club’s relaunch in 2016 was on a golf course designed by Canadian company Puddicombe Golf Design, led by Sid and Grant Puddicombe.
The brief here was clearly to create a ‘championship’ test, and the new 6,485m course hosted its first significant professional event in early 2018 with the Rebel Sport Masters.
We look forward to posting a course review of Wainui on Planet Golf in the near future.
