An ambitious 45-hole development in the north of Germany, the Winston Golf Facility was designed by Canadian David Krause across what was a flat former pasture. On his Links Course, Krause moved a tremendous amount of dirt to create a moonscape of sorts, with a series of tepee style mounds and faux dunes essentially overpowering the flat terrain. The Open Course is more moderately shaped and tree-lined, but still with lakes, mounds and heavily contoured putting areas.
Winston may not be to everyone’s tastes, but does have lots of fans in Germany and good facilities and is probably worth a look for those considering a golf/improvement type experience.
