In Volume 1 of The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that.
“I’ve been treated quite well almost everywhere I’ve traveled in the world of golf, but my one visit to Hunstanton when I was overseas in my 21st year stands out to this day – the secretary was on vacation, but the member who was filling in for him bought me a drink, listened to my story, and declared me a “temporary honorary member”. The course itself was not quite as friendly on the windy fall day when I played … I walked up to the elevated 7th green with my head down to avoid the rain spitting in my face, only to see my ball roll back past me and down the approach, fully two minutes after it had landed up on the green! I was slightly disappointed by the difficult par-4 13th, which Patric Dickinson had illustrated so vividly in his book, but the quality of the course as a whole more than made up for it.”
Hunstanton received a score of 6 out of 10 from Tom Doak, and two of his co-authors.
