In Volume 3 of The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses, Tom Doak published that.
“Just a few miles across the bridge from Detroit, Windsor – Essex is one of the few Ross courses in Canada. The greens were much admired by pros like Ben Crenshaw and Jerry Pate when it hosted the Canadian Open in 1976 – Pate won that year – but there are scores of Ross courses built on property with more interest than this flattish site, including four or five on the Detroit side of the river.”
The Essex Golf & Country Club received a score of 6 out of 10 from Tom Doak and scores of 5 out of 10 from two of his co-authors.
