Charming French speaking golf club close to the famous battle site of Waterloo, the best golf on this 45-hole property can be found on Fred Hawtree's La Marache course which opened in 1960 and is set upon rolling farmland and framed by views of the attractive Belgian countryside. The holes here are tree lined but not unduly cramped, the greens large and well bunkered but without great shaping sophistication. It's one of those inoffensive golf courses that doesn't boast a string of world-class holes but has enough appeal and interest to satisfy most golfing palates.

The La Lion course was created in 1988 by Paul Rolin and later remodelled by European Golf Design, and is named because it enjoys views of the famous Napoleon statue on Waterloo Hill. This course is more open with some pretty golf but less natural fairway movement and few clever design tactics employed to maintain ones interest in the layout.

Both courses are quite pretty here, and we found this a surprisingly pleasant place to golf.
