Located in the outer western suburbs of Sydney, the Twin Creeks golf course is a private members facility designed by popular tournament professional Graham Marsh. The layout occupies a pleasantly undulating slice of Australian bushland, and is known for its large, sprawling bunker complexes and sharply contoured green sites.
This is one of Marsh’s most enjoyable Australian courses with highlights including a number of attractively bunkered par threes and the split fairway drivable par four 12th. Like many holes here, the 12th is heavily bunkered but the tongue of short grass directly in line to the green entices the aggressive player to take the shorter route. Unfortunately the bunkering on a few of the longer holes is less strategic, but nonetheless the hazards are well built and it’s a reasonably fun course to play.
Aesthetically, the biggest weakness at Twin Creeks is the surrounding residential development, and the large power lines that cut right through sections of the back nine. There are still many homesites left undeveloped here, so in all likelihood the housing will only get worse as the years progress, but perhaps as a tradeoff the power lines will eventually be buried.
Regardless, Twin Creeks is a nice course and one of the more noteworthy Australian designs from Graham Marsh. Interestingly, his bunkering style on many later projects here mirrored what was done at Twin Creeks, which for really keen students of golf course design might make this place even more interesting.
