Part of a larger integrated residential community in the north of Brisbane; the North Lakes golf course was designed by Graham Marsh and built on a site squeezed uncomfortably between houses and what appears protected paddocks.
This was not a great site for golf, and you can excuse the architects for not producing their best work here. There are serious shortcomings with the course, however, including a lack of shaping sophistication, poorly built bunkers and the annoying use of a creek that comes into play on a handful of front nine holes by cutting directly across the fairway. The greens are reasonably well conceived, but often guarded by large bunker shapes that are quite shallow and unimpressive to look at.
Graham Marsh has been responsible for some nice golf courses in Australia, North Lakes not up to the standard of his best work and unlikely to feature heavily in sales materials given to perspective new clients.
