Following a successful playing career on the PGA Tour, British Open Champion Tom Lehman turned his hand to design teaming up with Chris Brands who had previously worked with John Fought and Bob Cupp.
Lehman's most significant design project has been the Dunes Course at The Prairie Club in Nebraska, one of the finest sites made available for golf in America over the past two decades. The quality of the work done by Brands and Lehman here was reasonably high and demonstrated a passion for the ground game and an understanding of the virtues of golden age golf. The difference between good work and great work is apparent the further south one travels into the central American Sand Hills, and once the design skills of men like Bill Coore have been sampled.
Signature design always has its pitfalls, but Tom Lehman seems genuinely passionate about design and would appear capable of creating decent golf courses in the years ahead.
