Canada's best and most loved golf course architect, Stanley Thompson built a number of world-class, golden age gems from the early 1900s through to the 1940s. He also trained some prominent golf architects, including the prolific Robert Trent Jones who worked with him for several years.

Golf course ranking lists in Canada are still dominated by Thompson courses, with Highlands Links, St Georges, Jasper Park, Capilano and Banff Springs remaining inside the Top 10 or 20. Others like Cataraqui and The Summit are under appreciated and great fun to play.
