The designer of a reported 500 plus golf courses worldwide, and the father of Rees and Robert Junior, Robert Trent Jones was clearly one of the most influential Americans in the history of our game. His best known courses remain celebrated tournament icons, and are dotted all over the world - from Valderrama, Sotogrande and Adare Manor in Europe to Spyglass Hill, Congressional, Oak Hill, Oakland Hills, Hazeltine, Firestone and Atlanta Athletic Club in his home country.
Despite the lower profile, his best golf courses include Sperone, Prince de Provence, Moliets and Troia in Europe as well as Peachtree in the USA.
Although modern golf course design has moved beyond the Trent Jones formula of ‘hard par, easy bogey’ golf, his portfolio remains impressive and his legacy assured through the constant playing of important events at his courses
