Prior to the death of Robert von Hagge in 2010, Rick Baril was a partner with von Hagge and Mike Smelek in an international golf design business that spanned the globe and was responsible for work on more than 200 courses. Some of their most celebrated courses are in Europe, with the likes of Les Bordes, Seignosse, Le Kempferhof and Le Golf National in France, Circolo Golf Bogogno and Is Arenas in Italy and Emporda in Spain all having various qualities.
Baril continues to work with Mike Smelek and their company remains busy. Excessive shaping at places like Buenos Aires GC and Le Golf National aside, they generally produce good work.
