Peter Matkovich is an increasingly prolific South African course designer, who started in the game as a professional on the European and South African tours before jumping fully into design during the 1990s. His portfolio is now littered with high-profile creations such as Arabella, De Zalze, Pinnacle Point (with Darren Clarke) and Prince’s Grant.

While there is no doubt Matkovich knows how to route spectacular golf holes, questions remain on his ability to create sensible and strategic layouts that are suitable for all standard of player. Pinnacle Point is barely playable for some, and while the views are incredible there are too many nonsensical holes for quality golf. Prince’s Grant is probably his most respectable effort, with fewer black spots and enough dramatic golf to keep discerning players entertained.
