Pat Ruddy

A larger than life character with passionate views on golf and design, Pat Ruddy was a writer before turning his hand to architecture and construction – famously at the European Club south of Dublin which Ruddy founded, financed and built from scratch. He also designed a course nearby at Druid’s Glen and Sandy Hills north at the Rosapenna Resort.

The European Club is Ruddy’s masterpiece, and it’s a layout that he has continued to tweak and modify over the years in a constant quest for course perfection. The construction itself is good, particularly the bunkers and greens, and the course is rightly regarded as one of the finest modern links in Europe.
