Working with Professional golfer turned commentator Jack Newton and the late John Spencer, Graeme Grant helped establish a course architecture firm that redesigned the famed Huntingdale layout in Melbourne's sandbelt and then built the underated Links Lady Bay course in South Australia. The Huntingdale work was very contentious and few would argue that, conditioning aside, the course was better now than before the changes made by Spencer, Grant and Newton.
Prior to entering design, Graeme Grant was regarded as one of Australia's leading superintendents. He worked for many years at Kingston Heath, and successfully introduced Santa Ana couch to the club's famous fairways. Rightly or wrongly, he is certain now to be remembered as the man behind the Ocean Dunes course on King Island in Tasmania. Grant founded the project, bought the land, raised the capital, routed the holes and ultimately supervised their design.
