Pinnacle Point is one of the most scenic courses in world golf, the layout built partly along a stunning bluff that overlooks the African coastline. Sadly, much of the golf is disappointing with early parts of the property too steep for sensible play, and many of the design decisions taken to enhance vistas rather than enjoyment for golfers.

There is no question that the green fee paying public will enjoy the thrill of hitting shots to small greens cut into the side of cliffs, but many holes become tedious with regular play as they provide very few genuine options. The longer holes are also scenic and much more inviting to photograph than to play.

That said, the Pinnacle Point property is unique for Africa and when the fairways are groomed nicely and the greens roll true it does present a quite luxurious playing experience. With a little more design sophistication this might have been very special.
