Exciting news for members of the Peninsula and Kingswood Golf Clubs in Melbourne, with both sets of members voting to support a merger of the two clubs.

In voting undertaken in recent days, 98% of Peninsula members supported the merger along with 63% of Kingswood members, enough for the amalgamation to proceed. Over the coming weeks and months steps will be put in place to eventually move the Kingswood members to Peninsula’s Frankston base, which has 36 holes and space to accommodate the additional golfers.

Revenue generated from the sale of Kingswood’s Dingley site will assist the new entity improve its facilities and, crucially, elevate the standard of the existing golf courses. Both the North and South courses at Peninsula are very good but need larger maintenance budgets to bring them up to true Sandbelt standards. They also need design fine-tuning.

There are some crucial decisions to make over the coming period, and one hopes that the new club will give design improvements on the existing Peninsula courses serious consideration. With sensible tweaking of their golf holes this club has the potential to become one of the finest in Australia.

Further details on the merger will be available in coming weeks.
