Tobiano Golf - Tobiano Golf Course

Canada, Canadian Rockies, British Columbia, Kamloops
5.3 (3)
Designer: Thomas McBroom
Course Opened: 2007

Within an hour of Sagebrush, but an almost polar opposite golf experience, Tobiano is one of many aesthetically affective, but architecturally empty, modern golf designs across Canada. The views out toward the surrounding lake are sublime, and some of the shots quite exciting to hit, but far too many holes are unnecessarily narrow or spoiled by artificial mowing lines, penal forced carries or extreme elevation changes.

There are some nice holes through the early stages and the more subtle 14th and lakeside par three 15th both work reasonably well, but the overriding memory here is of some crazy steep golf and one par three, the 7th, which crosses a deep ravine to a shallow green that is almost impossible for average golfers to hit and hold. A theme repeated elsewhere, Tobiano can be quite brutal in places and likely to only appeal to good players or those who feel that difficulty is the ultimate gauge of quality.
